Poker Terminology: Open
“open” is a term used in several different ways in poker circles.
It most often refers to the action of the first non-blind player who enters a pot. For example:
“I was under the gun and I opened the pot for 3x the big blind”
In this example, we’re talking about raising the pot as the first person in the pot. There are other ways as well:
“Two people folded, and I open limped from the cut off”
In this example, being the first person to enter the pot and limping in can be referred to as open-limping.
